NUMBERS GAME
Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts issued his year-end report on the judiciary last week. Besides four pages devoted to Justice Roberts urging judges to promote public confidence in the judiciary, the Report notes that criminal cases rose 6% to 92,678. Appellate cases dropped by 2%, and the number of people on federal supervised release stayed the same, at the amazing level of 113,198.
